The African Children’s Choir
Journey of Hope
Winter - Spring 2008

Producer, Lighting Designer & Photographer: Ryan Mueller

Following the brutal reign of Idi Amin in Uganda, during which hundreds of thousands of children were orphaned and left starving to death, the African Children’s Choir™ was born.

In fact it was the singing of one small child that inspired the founder Ray Barnett and his team of volunteers to recruit the first African Children’s Choir™ from amongst these desperate children. Their mission was and still is to show the world that Africa’s most needy and vulnerable children have beauty, dignity and unlimited ability.

The Mahabharata is one of Hinduism's two sacred epics. It is the longest poem ever written (in its longest form, roughly 18 times longer than The Odyssey and The Iliad combined). The Adaptation of this poem into a theatrical form involved the funneling of the hundreds of stories within The Mahabharata. The goal was to focus on the journey of the two key families within the epic.

Noh is a reflection of and a meditation on Buddhism. Most, if not all, of two thousand Noh plays are karma plays. It is the formality of Buddhism that became the core of Noh Theater. Reaching its climax in the late 15th century, it was enshrined to remain as it is still seen.
